10-Year-Old Girl In US Marries Boyfriend Days Before Dying Of Leukaemia
A young girl, aged 10, from the United States fulfilled her dream of getting married before succumbing to leukemia. Emma Edwards and Daniel Marshall Christopher “DJ” Williams, her childhood sweetheart, exchanged vows at a joyous celebration on June 29th. Sadly, just 12 days later, the young girl passed away. This heartwarming but tragic story was reported by the New York Post.
In April last year, Emma received a diagnosis of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). However, her parents, Alina and Aaron Edwards, remained optimistic about her ability to overcome this illness. Sadly, their hopes were shattered in June when they received devastating news: Emma’s cancer was untreatable and she had a limited amount of time left to live.
“We were going for another kind of treatment, and they told us that she probably had days to a week, not weeks” to live, Ms Alina said.
“We didn’t expect to hear that at all. We thought we were going for another kind of treatment and it would work. It was like a gut punch. You never imagine them saying they can’t do anything else for her,” she added.
Following the unfortunate update, Ms Alina and DJ’s mother immediately took action by organizing a faux “marriage”. “It had to happen super fast. We threw it together in less than two days; everything ended up being donated,” explained Ms Alina regarding the wedding celebration, which was held outdoors with approximately 100 people in attendance.
“It was so precious, and it came together so well. Her dad gets to say he gave her away. A friend of ours officiated, a friend read a verse from the Bible, and her best friend was maid of honour,” she added.
Ms Alina also commended her new son-in-law. “DJ is the sweetest soul you’ll ever meet. He has a heart of gold and he really loves Emma,” she expressed.
Additionally, Alina Edward shared that Emma appeared to be in good health until she was brought to the hospital after falling over. It was then that medical professionals discovered cancer in her leg bones in April 2022. However, despite being told by doctors that this type of cancer was “common” among children and likely treatable, Emma unfortunately did not experience a positive outcome.
